More on Serving

SERVING THE LORD, NOT MEN, BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT THE LORD WILL

EPHESIANS 6:7-8 NIV
The Bible talks a lot about sowing and reaping. When you are still in bed dreaming about being Becks or being married to Becks, farmers are out on their tractors ploughing fields. When he sows the seeds he expects to see a crop for this work. When we invest in something or someone it’s only human to feel we should reap where we’ve sown. When we don’t, it’s easy to get upset. Yet the Bible says, ‘Serve whole- heartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does.’ (Ephesians 6:7-8 NIV). Nobody knows the sacrifices you’ve made better than God. He sees your secret and selfless acts on behalf of others and His Word says, ‘Then your father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.’ (Matthew 6:4). Now if God chooses to reward you richly, don’t let anybody make you feel bad about it. Just keep giving your best and keep serving, regardless of what He puts into your hand or how much praise and recognition you receive or don’t receive. In the book of Matthew, Jesus tells a story of a boss who gives his workers a job to do, later he rewards their efforts. They aren’t given the same responsibilities or the same rewards (Matthew 25). Your part is to be grateful for whatever He gives you, do the best job you can and enjoy the rewards and greater opportunities that follow. Remember, you’re not serving so people will big you up but so that God Himself with say ‘well done’ (Matthew 25:21). Go for it!
