Love letters (2)

Love letters (2)
‘…You have left the love you had in the beginning.’ Revelation 2:4 NCV

If you’ve ever fallen in love you’ll recognise the symptoms: Your mind is consumed with thoughts of the other person, you can’t stop talking to them, texting, emailing. You chat online, over the phone and can’t wait for the moment when you are in each other’s company for that special one-to-one time! You want to know everything about them-what they like, what they don’t like-you laugh with them, you cry with them, you want to share everything about you with them. Being in love affects how you act, what you choose to do or not do. Being in love is wonderful… but then comes that awful moment when you realise that person isn’t quite so interested in you anymore. They seem a bit distant, they don’t talk to you as much, there’s no more silly texts or loving gifts… until there’s… no more… they have left you… and your heart breaks!
When Jesus said to the Church in Ephesus, ‘You have left the love you had in the beginning,’ He was talking about Himself. They had left Him! He was still there, but they had left Him, alone, heartbroken. They didn’t love Him anymore!
When love is gone you miss out on all the benefits that person brought into your life. If you’re like the Church in Ephesus and have walked away from Jesus and stopped loving Him, then you need to bring that love back, so you don’t miss out.
