I KNOW WHERE I CAME FROM AND WHERE I AM GOING.
JOHN 8:14 NIV
The news recently reported on a man who was released from prison after serving time for a crime he didn’t commit. A case of mistaken identity had stolen many of his best years. And unless you understand who you are before God, satan will try to lock you up in a life sentence too. Identifying somebody means having the ability to recognise them and say exactly who they are. With that in mind, think about this: when you identify with who other people say you are versus who God says you are, you’re heading for problems. Jesus identified only with God’s opinion. ‘I know where I came from and where I am going.’ People said nasty things about Jesus, but the Bible says, ‘The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being’ (Hebrews 1:3 NIV). Knowing who you truly are now you’ve been born again gives you the confidence to hold your head high! Paul says, ‘In [Christ] you have been made complete’ (Colossians 2:10 NAS). ‘Complete!’ That means you have nothing missing! Once you accept that, you’ll stop feeling like you’re a second-class person and start living like royalty; because you are! You don’t have to struggle to get in with the in-crowd when you know you’re right in there with God. Do you need to remember again today that He loves you; that He has a plan for you? Never lose sight of that! Instead of taking your identity from the people around you, take it from Jesus, ‘the author and finisher of our faith’ (Hebrews 12:2), because only He knows where you come from and where you’re going.
