Psalm 119:37 NIV
A lad was in need of direction, so he tried a bit of Bible Bingo (that is when you open it at random and point at a verse). He opened it at this verse: ?Judas went out and hanged himself.? Quickly he closed it and reopened it elsewhere only to hit a verse saying: ?Go thou and do likewise.? Feeling a bit freaked he thought ‘Third time lucky’ only to get this: ?And what thou doest, do quickly!? This style of reading the Bible isn’t what God wants for us at all. Even word4U2day by itself isn’t enough! We need a regular plan of what to read, including the less interesting bits. How embarrassing it would be to get to heaven and have Zephaniah ask us, ?How did you like my book?? ?All Scripture is God-breathed? (See 2 Ti 3:16). A good Bible student is like a detective. The first thing she does is look for clues. She doesn?t say anything, interpret anything, or draw conclusions. All she does is examine the details; she studies all the evidence and looks at as many details as possible. Second, she begins asking questions about what she has observed. Third, she starts putting the evidence together and interpreting what she has. Fourth, she compares all the evidence, piecing it together to see how each fact fits and what it means. Finally, she draws a conclusion and on the basis of what she believes actually occurred and who was involved. This is the way to read your Bible, like a detective, with God helping you make sense of it!
