‘Abraham … obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.’
Hebrew 11:8
The space shuttle’s guidance system only kicks in when it’s several miles up in the atmosphere. So what? Well, God’s guidance can often be like that too; it becomes effective when you’re in motion – e.g. you’ve got to get yourself off the launch pad! Are you stuck in the same spot praying "Lord, I won’t make a move until I hear from You," while He’s saying, "You’ll hear from Me once you’ve done what I’ve already put before you to do?" Sometimes we know what God wants, but we don’t like it. So we pray hoping He’ll change His mind and decide to do what we want instead! The Bible says, "By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going" (Heb 11:8 NIV). Have you ever tried to turn around a car or even a bike when it’s not actually moving? It’s impossible; the steering only works when the wheels are moving. Will you have unanswered questions and unspoken concerns? Absolutely. Just like your car’s headlights don’t shine round the next corner or over the next hill, God will give you direction on a ‘need to know’ basis. That’s why Paul writes: "We walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Co 5:7). Actually, it’s the only way to go! It keeps you close to God, dependent on Him, and helps you remember Who the credit for all your successes belongs to. So whatever you do today, don’t stay still; get into motion and be ready for God to take control.
