Be at rest?O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.
Psalm 116:7 NIV
When you?re down in the dumps your energy is drained, your friendships turn sour, your enthusiasm runs dry, you’re blinded to your blessings, you can’t bear thinking about future plans and your desire to pursue God is gone. So is there a way out? 1) Start with yourself! Somebody else might be making your life miserable but that doesn’t get you off the hook in terms of your own attitude. Has the bad atmosphere of your negative emotions led to sin in your own life? ??your sins have cut you off from God? (Isa 59:2 NLT). Do you need to take a long look into the mirror of God’s Word? Comparing yourself to other people can get you down but God’s promises will lift you up! Jeremiah said, ‘When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight’ (Jeremiah 15:16). 2) Recharge your batteries. One American President refused to make important decisions at the end of the day, insisting that rest was necessary to essential to making good decisions. During all their crazy travels here and there (remember, this was before trains, plane and cars), Jesus often called His disciples aside to rest. He knew that when tiredness arrives, faith departs. He also taught them how to pray. Throughout the centuries, millions of Christians have found out that prayer is a great refresher for the soul and praying aloud prevents our thoughts from wandering down crooked and twisted paths. Daily prayer is a prescription that can help heal your emotions and lift you out of your doldrums. Try it!
