A is for …

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord.’

Zechariah 4:6
Being a Christian and spending time in a church community means you can’t avoid certain religious words. When you don’t understand them, these words can seem a bit weird and religious but they often have really awesome meanings. Take, for example, Anointing! 1. To be anointed is to be chosen. When God chooses people to do great things, He doesn’t always select the obvious candidate. He may raise up a small, frail person who’s half scared-to-death. Anointing is a way God makes it obvious to others that His hand is one someone’s life for a very special reason. 2. Without God’s anointing you’re in trouble! Take the strange story of Samson (Judges 13-16). His anointing depending on him keeping a vow to God to do with his hairstyle! A shifty woman called Delilah tricked him and his enemies gave him a crop while he was asleep. He woke up and the power was gone. Samson learned the hard way that his strength only had one source; the Lord. Anyone blessed with a special anointing forgets this at their peril! 3. The anointing brings God glory. Take the sling out of David’s hand and the stone out of Goliath’s forehead and what are they? Worthless by themselves! So if you’re waiting for God to give you exceptional equipment before you decide to get into the fight, you’re not going to experience great victories. They only come when you pray, ‘Lord, I don’t see how You could do this through me.’ At that point it’s clear that only God can get the glory. And remember it’s his reputation, not yours, that it’s all about!
